I was feeling adventurous and decided that I wanted to make candy costumes for Thea and I to wear on Halloween while my son was at school. I made a gumball dress for myself and a cotton candy outfit for Thea. These were both very easy to make, however the gumball machine dress was a little time consuming!

For the gumball machine, I bought a plain, cotton, red dress a black headband, and black tights. I went to the craft store and purchased a hot glue gun, rainbow pompoms, a piece of gray felt and a black fabric marker. On the top half of the dress I glued the pompoms on with the hot glue. I also glued on a piece of grey felt on the center of the dress, which I then wrote, with the black fabric marker, 25 cents. Then I glued some pompoms on the black headband. I let everything dry for 24 hours, and that was it!

For the Cotton Candy costume, I bought my daughter white leggings, a white onesie, and a white headband. I also bought some fabric batting, and a box of sidewalk chalk at my local craft store. I used pink chalk to color the fabric batting. Then I cut the pink batting into uneven strips. I hot-glued the strips, in a cylindrical pattern on to the white onesie, making the center more full. For the head piece, I formed the pink batting into a circle and rolled a piece of white computer paper into a cone and attached it to the top. Then I glued that to the white headband and allowed everything to cool for 24 hours!

Two costumes that didn’t cost a lot of cash and were super easy to DIY!
